Pressly after the Houston Astros signed Josh Hader this offseason. After Hader was announced as Houston’s new closer, Pressly
is expected to pitch the eighth inning in 2024. On Thursday, Pressly called Houston’s decision to sign Hader a “surprise.”
“Yeah, it was a surprise, but he makes our team better,” Pressly said of Hader, according to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com.
“He’s easily one of the top relievers in the game. When you add him to our bullpen, we become significantly better.”
Pressly’s reaction toward the circumstance exemplifies his selflessness. Nobody would blame Pressly for being unhappy with the
circumstances, as he did not deserve to lose the closing job. In the end, he seemed to recognize that Hader’s signing will help the Astros win more games.
