Sky Sports: We asked AI who should become West Brom’s next manager – its suggestions shocked us.
West Bromwich Albion’s new manager should be chosen based on artificial intelligence recommendations. West Brom remain without a head coach more than three weeks after Carlos Corberan’s departure on Christmas Eve, and fans are understandably growing restless. Several bosses, both employed and jobless, have been contacted, but Albion do not appear to be any closer to finding their man. Patience is understandable given the stakes in play-off football and promotion, but time is running out and games are approaching at a rapid pace. With so much speculation over who will finally receive the baton from Corberan, we thought it would be interesting to ask AI to provide a solution.
Given the basic request to provide us with a list of several candidates West Brom could consider as manager, our preferred AI program crunched the figures in seconds, yielding a quartet of serious possible selections. Anyone up for a dose of no-nonsense, hard-nosed, and to-the-point football? Our AI tool is certainly in the mood for it, with Sean Dyche identified as the best choice. The former Burnley manager was fired by Everton after presumably leading the Toffees as far as he could and leaving them just above the Premier League relegation zone. He is now unemployed.
The robot’s transcript explains why Dyche should join the Baggies, citing his successful track record in the Championship, including promotion with Burnley twice. His experience managing teams in both the Championship and the Premier League makes him an enticing candidate for West Brom, especially if they want immediate promotion or stability in the top division. His knowledge with English football may provide the steadiness and tactical acumen required for a squad aiming for the playoffs or higher.” Fair enough, Mr AI, but suggestions linking Dyche with a quick move from Goodison Park to The Hawthorns have been refuted, with the 53-year-old willing to take a break from management.
Who else could take on the Albion reins?
The Baggies were recently in advanced talks with Raphael Wicky but negotiations reportedly broke down over who he would bring to the club as his backroom staff. It seems the robot was on the same wavelength with the idea of Wicky, though, and it still thinks he’d be a strong pick.
“His name still comes up in discussions for the role,” the robot suggested. “Wicky’s experience in Switzerland, including winning a domestic double, shows capability in managing a team, but his adaptation to the Championship’s specific demands would be untested.” Fair enough, Mr AI, but suggestions linking Dyche with a quick move from Goodison Park to The Hawthorns have been refuted, with the 53-year-old willing to take a break from management.
