Ayr United, the Scottish Championship club, has expressed interest in Burnley forward Joe Westley.
That is the latest from journalist Alan Nixon, who stated on his Patreon account that the forward would be happy to try his luck in the Scottish second tier.
Scott Brown, a Celtic and Scotland veteran, presently manages Ayr United, and it is believed that the 39-year-old is eager to sign Westley on a loan deal from Burnley this winter after spending time on loan in England’s fifth division.
According to Nixon, the move could be tricky given the number of loan players Burnley can have outside of England.
Moving to Ayr United is a step in the right way for Joe Westley.
Joe Westley joined Burnley as a youngster in August 2021, scoring a couple goals for the U18s before receiving his first loan move away from Turf Moor.
AFC Fylde, a local National League club, gave him his first taste of men’s football, and he scored five goals in 13 league appearances, which is a good record for a 19-year-old who had never played at this level before.
In September, Westley spent a month on loan at Rochdale in the same tier, but he only made three league appearances before returning to Turf Moor.
Now, it appears that the striker may be ready for a new challenge, as Scottish club Ayr United has expressed interest in him.
Although the Scottish second level is not a significant step up, it will be a new challenge for the Burnley player under an ambitious boss in Scott Brown, who previously led Fleetwood Town in League One.
Burnley’s current loan status.
As Nixon alluded to in his report, the deal may not be easy considering the number of Burnley players presently on loan outside of England.
The Clarets currently have five players on loan outside of the UK, all of which will expire in the summer unless something changes.
Among the most noteworthy is Zeki Amdouni, who is presently playing for Portuguese club Benfica and appears to be enjoying his time there.
The Burnley player has five goals in 13 league games and six Champions League appearances, scoring one and assisting one.
