As they say, although change isn’t always welcomed, it may result in something better. Likewise, Kraft’s exit might mark the start of a far larger endeavour at Southampton.

The Saints’ approach to the January transfer window has appeared much too sluggish, and this needs to change immediately. To begin with, Southampton possesses one of the largest teams in the Premier League.

According to Transfermarkt, the Saints currently have 33 players on their roster.

Selecting a lineup from this huge squad is more of a stress than a flexibility for any manager. Thus, it’s wise to admit that Southampton need to trim their overly bloated squad.

Taking a closer look, there are a lot of players who don’t feature much in their recent matches. So, a better strategy would be to either sell them or resolve their future at the club by the end of the season.

Before choosing to acquire a player, the team should finalise certain departures in order to make new January additions. Southampton ought to make an effort to sign at least one of these three players.
