Prospective Rangers boss who broke hearts in Seville is closing in on a Premier League move.

Oliver Glasner, the former manager of Frankfurt, is very close to joining Crystal Palace after being predicted to take over at Rangers.

Prominent transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano, who has been actively monitoring the situation on social media site X, says as much.

Oliver Glasner will take over for veteran manager Roy Hodgson at Selhurst Park after Crystal Palace relieves him of his responsibilities, according to Romano.

Oliver Glasner is being pursued by Crystal Palace.

Should the contract close, it will be Glasner’s first managerial position since he left Eintracht Frankfurt at the conclusion of the 2022–2023 season.

Rangers supporters will always associate the Austrian manager with breaking their hearts in Seville by leading Frankfurt to victory in the Europa League Final via penalty kicks.

After a 1-1 draw in Spain, Oliver Glasner’s team overcame Rangers on penalty kicks in Frankfurt’s greatest moment in a generation. Sam Lammers was another member of the German team.

However, the manager was mentioned more recently as a possible candidate to take over at Rangers after Michael Beale was fired last season.

With the pressure on Thomas Tuchel mounting, Glasner has also been brought up in relation to the Bayern Munich position recently.

Rangers happy with manager choice

Oliver Glasner has a long history as a manager, but this will be his first Premier League position as a 49-year-old boss of LASK.

With Philippe Clement the current star at Ibrox, Rangers will also be happy to have moved elsewhere back in October 2023, if they were ever interested at all.

It’s been quite the turnaround since the Belgian took over in the middle of the season—winning the League Cup, making it to the Europa League final 16, and surrendering a seven-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Oliver Glasner, on the other hand, appears destined to take over Crystal Palace at a difficult time, as the Eagles are just five points off of the relegation zone and sit 15th in the table.
