Mikey Johnston, a winger for Celtic, gave an explanation for his January departure from the team. The Irish international signed a contract with West Bromwich Albion with the goal of getting him playing time until the conclusion of the season.

Johnston revealed his dissatisfaction with his lack of playing time at Celtic, which led to his departure, following his first goal in his third appearance for West Brom (as reported by The National).

“One can have a terrific career at The Championship. At Celtic, I was playing, but not consistently, and I wasn’t getting the minutes I want. It was annoying when I would play well one game and then not be able to play the next.

To be honest, I was eager to leave Celtic, so when the chance to join West Brom presented itself, I seized it. The major events I want to play in are the playoffs, which is what we aim to achieve.

“Celtic is under tremendous strain. People may not be aware of the extent of the strain. I’ve been around it since I was a young child, therefore I’m excited about it because I need the pressure to do well.

It’s a huge task in a competitive, large league that’s unlike anything I’ve ever done, but I think I have the skills to handle it. It does not seem to be a regression. It is yet another enormous team in a top division.
Johnston had made 92 appearances for Celtic, contributing 12 assists and 13 goals. When talking about Johnston, Celtics supporters will undoubtedly use the word frustrating. Unfairly, the Irishman gets flak for being a homegrown talent who hasn’t exactly been kicked on.
