Reading carry out ‘essential upgrades’ to ease ‘heavy turnstile congestion’

Reading have completed essential upgrades to the access control system in an attempt to improve supporter experience with turnstiles after many complaints before Saturday’s FA Cup exit to Burnley.

A throng of fewer than 8,000 people filled the Sir John Madejski Stand and one block of the Eamonn Dolan Stand, and fans were cautioned that there could be delays after earlier games against Fleetwood Town and Harborough Town.
However, by 3 p.m. on Saturday, hundreds, if not thousands, of people remained stranded outside, and many missed kickoff.

During the match, the club issued a statement confirming that investigations were underway to improve turnstile delays.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, supporters were unable to purchase tickets online or by phone because ‘upgrades were carried out in an effort to solve an issue that caused considerable congestion for supporters who tried to enter the stadium in the lead up to Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Burnley.’
