Blues have sold out their allocation for the visit to fellow League One promotion hopefuls Wrexham AFC on January 23 as 1,284 fans will pick out the away end at The Racecourse.
It took less than three days for Bluenoses to snap up all of the tickets available with the sale not even reaching the ‘Gold’ phase of Birmingham’s tiered priority system. That means every supporter on the terraces will be a season ticket holder with at least 18 games attended from last campaign.
Blues have become rather renowned for their ridiculously impressive away support and there’s no sign of that slowing down with well over a thousand taking on the three-and-a-half-hour round trip. It was never in doubt, really, that Birmingham would have a full away end for such a huge fixture but it’s not a given for lots of clubs in League One.
Whether it be rain or shine, Bluenoses make their presence known. Manager Chris Davies couldn’t be more thankful for the support and the players are certainly feeling the impact too as Blues have won seven of their last eight away matches in all competitions.
Wrexham vs Birmingham grabs Hollywood attention
There’s likely to be worldwide attention on the game as Wrexham are owned by American superstar actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, while NFL legend Tom Brady has a minority share in Blues. The return fixture saw McElhenney and Brady joined by Manchester United and Real Madrid icon David Beckham at St Andrew’s.
Disney+ film crews were also in attendance in Small Heath for the hit show ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ and they are expected to visit again for this upcoming fixture in Wales. It’s unprecedented for League One fixtures to gain so much attention but this is the reality with two big clubs coming to blows under the lights.
As it stands, Birmingham look rather unbeatable at the summit of the League One standings, two points ahead of both Wycombe Wanderers and Wrexham – and with two games in hand. Beating Phil Parkinson’s side at The Racecourse would surely make the gap insurmountable.
