Jamie Carragher challenges the Premier League on Everton’s 10-point penalty claim.
Jamie Carragher has questioned why Everton’s appeal against their 10-point deduction has not yet been made public by the Premier League.
Everton was hit with the worst-ever top-flight punishment back in November when they broke the league’s Profitability and Sustainability regulations.
The club lost £19.5 million more than Premier League teams are permitted to lose in a given period of time.
Even though Everton collaborated closely with the league, a statement from the team expressed their “shock and disappointment” at the harshness of the punishment. Still, Everton was declared guilty.Politicians and commentators across strongly criticized the Premier League, and the Department of Culture, Media, and Sport demanded an instant explanation of their reasoning for the decision.
Everton filed an appeal that same week, and a three-day hearing was held two weeks ago. A verdict is expected by the middle of February.
Sean Dyche’s team is now one point below Luton Town in 17th position due to the deduction; in the absence of the point penalty, they would have been level on points with Fulham, who are in 12th place.

Carragher said on X, the former name for Twitter: “What’s the status of the appeals ruling on Everton’s 10-point deduction?
“Now that two weeks have gone, Everton and the surrounding clubs must act quickly. They and the PL must have made up their minds by now.
Carragher went on to wonder if the Premier League was concerned about Everton supporters retaliating in the same way as they did during their matchup with Manchester United at Goodison Park, their first home game following the penalty kick.
All across Goodison Park, cards were displayed accusing the Premier League of corruption; additionally, banners hanging over the Gwladys Street end decried the league as being unsuited for its intended purpose.
Carragher went on to say: “Are the PL waiting until after Everton’s home game on Monday because they fear the reaction?”
Shortly after Everton’s penalty was awarded, the former Liverpool defender and Gary Neville were on The Overlap podcast. Neville furthered his calls for an independent regulator to enter the football industry by arguing that the Everton situation demonstrates that the Premier League is incapable of running itself.
Since then, Everton has been accused for a second breach that falls within some of the financial years for which they have already received punishment; the club has stated that they would file an appeal.
Nottingham Forest was also in violation during that time, and information regarding a sanction is anticipated to be provided before to the season’s conclusion.
