Chelsea hold talks over deal to sign “unbelievable” £81k-per-week winger
Transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano reports that Chelsea is in talks to sign a “unbelievable” young offensive talent.
There could be several incomings and outgoings at Stamford Bridge this month, as the Blues prepare for another hectic transfer window under Todd Boehly.Enzo Maresca is looking to improve his backline by signing Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi and Ajax’s Jarrel Hato.
Versatile Lecce left backPatrick Dorgu is a target for West Londoners with Renato Veiga’s uncertain future. The Portuguese defender has agreed to terms with Borussia Dortmund and could move permanently this month.
With Christopher Nkunku’s future uncertain, Maresca may need to reinforce in forward areas this winter. The manager is considering several options.
Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens is on the shortlist, while Chelsea is interested in Sporting CP’s Conrad Harder, known as “the new Gyokeres”.
The Blues are reportedly in negotiations with Bayern Munich about signing Mathys Tel, one of several attackers they are considering.
The Premier League club has reached out to Bayern to inquire about Tel’s situation at the Allianz Arena. The winger recently spoke with manager Vincent Kompany to underline his desire to succeed with the German club, but it remains to be seen whether his focus shifts amid attention from Chelsea.
The Frenchman has struggled for playing time with Bayern for the bulk of the current season, but he has proven himself when given the chance in the past, scoring seven goals and assisting five times in 30 Bundesliga appearances last season.
Despite being only 19 years old, the prodigy has remarkable numbers. Sky Sports writer Florian Plettenberg praised him as “unbelievable” in March of last year.
Chelsea may need to bring in a flexible attacker this winter, and the Bayern ace fits the bill. He has played on both sides and as a center-forward throughout his career.
Mathys Tel stats by position | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
---|---|---|---|
Striker | 33 | 5 | 1 |
Left-winger | 32 | 8 | 4 |
Right-winger | 14 | 4 | 1 |
However, the £81k-per-week teenager has been most prolific at left-wing, indicating he may be best suited to pushing Jadon Sancho for a starting spot in that area of the pitch. While it is still very early days, it is clear that Chelsea have a concrete interest in Tel, and he could be an exciting signing if they are able to orchestrate a deal with Bayern Munich.
