Newcastle Want to Sign £290k-a-Week Forward for Eddie Howe
The former Real Madrid winger, who has struggled for consistent playing time at PSG this season, has been linked to the Magpies, Juventus, Aston Villa, and Real Sociedad as possible suitors. Asensio’s destiny at Parc des Princes may change in the coming weeks of January, according to Fichajes, as several English and European teams are currently attempting to offer him a path out of PSG.
According to French media, Asensio is no longer considered a part of PSG’s long-term ambitions under manager Luis Enrique, and the Spanish international has reached the final 18 months of his contract in France. All indications now point to his departure. After spending the previous two months on the bench at Parc des Princes, Fichajes believes that Asensio’s future at PSG may depend on the January transfer window. This season, the 28-year-old has only made 15 appearances across all competitions for the Ligue 1 winners, contributing two goals and two assists. Asensio has been benched for PSG’s previous three league games and last started a game on November 22 in their 3-0 victory over Toulouse.
Whether the Spanish international will be sent off in January with his unpopular PSG teammates Milan Skriniar and Randal Kolo Muani, who are both anticipated to depart in the upcoming weeks, is still up in the air. Given that he makes over £290,000 a week at PSG, Asensio would probably rank among the highest paid players in the Premier League if he joined Newcastle. Although Newcastle has not yet made any signings during the January transfer window, it is believed that they are looking to replace Miguel Almiron, who is now being pursued by MLS team Charlotte FC, with a new right-sided forward.
