Five years after leaving Southampton, Southampton legend Maya Yoshida shared a photo of himself at St Mary’s

Stadium. A saint is a saint forever.

Southampton boasts a great collection of legendary players. Some individuals, like Matt Le Tissier, are blatantly

visible, but there are also players whose contributions weren’t recognised until they left the team.

Fitting within this calibre of unsung heroes, Maya Yoshida is at the top of the pile. After spending eight years and

making 154 Premier League appearances for the Saints, he can certainly be considered a club legend.

Recently, Maya Yoshida became an MLS Cup and MLS Western Conference champion with his club, the Los Angeles

Galaxy. In LA, Yoshida is well respected and applauded for his brilliant energy levels. To Southampton fans, this

definitely rings a bell.

Maya Yoshida is currently experiencing a break in the MLS season. It is not due to return until the end of February,

so the centre-back has used this time to catch up on some of his former playing eras.

Maya Yoshida uploaded a photo of him standing beside St Mary’s Stadium’s pitch to X (previously Twitter). He still

has a place in his heart for Southampton, as evidenced by the red and white hearts that adorned the caption.

It makes sense that there was a lot of emotional sympathy for Yoshida in the comments. Among the remarks were

“welcome home” and “forever a Saint.”

Every Southampton supporter will undoubtedly have this opinion on Yoshida. He rarely made a mistake when

playing centre defence for Southampton, where he excelled. He always battled ten times harder to make up for it

when he did. The Saints can only expect their players to do this.

We hope Yoshida had a good time returning home. At St. Mary’s Stadium, there’s always a place set aside for him.
