Although Southampton ought to have prevailed in the match in the third round, their elimination from the competition wouldn’t have been wholly unexpected. Consequently, Southampton supporters have every reason to be pleased.

Tyler Dibling is one player in particular who ought to be ecstatic. He has never been the type to take pride in his work, but he did score his first brace of the season, which should be the first of many.

Ivan Juric reveals why he’s changed Tyler Dibling’s position at Southampton

Ivan Juric decided to deploy Tyler Dibling as a center forward during the game. Alongside fellow goal scorer Kamaldeen Sulemana, he played in a tandem that was obviously effective.

After the game, Juric was questioned about the choice to use Dibling as a striker, a position that may not have looked natural to him. Juric responded that sometimes this is preferable because it would allow Dibling to take a break from jogging too much.

“I think that he’s really young and I think he cannot run too much,” Juric stated. It is sometimes preferable for him to play forward and wait for the ideal opportunity to score the goal, like he did against Swansea.”

When Juric chose his Southampton lineup, he took a chance. It might have easily gone wrong, but it’s obvious that Juric made the choice based on his training observations. Southampton supporters can now stop complaining.

It would be good to see Dibling deployed more frequently in the striker position for the remainder of the season. In addition to teaching Juric a lot about his squad’s needs in the summer transfer market, it might allay some of the attacking worries we’ve witnessed.

Juric went on to say: “I saw that he had to defend a lot in the middle and then lose his energy.” I believe that this is the best situation for him right now.
