Chelsea smells transfer win as Arsenal refuses to ‘go higher than €50m’ for Everton midfielder

Chelsea smell transfer victory as Arsenal refuse to ‘go higher than €50m’ for Everton midfielder.

According to sources, Chelsea has an advantage over Arsenal in the race to recruit Amadou Onana from Everton during the summer transfer window.

The Toffees midfielder has piqued fans’ interest at Goodison Park since arriving from French club Lille in 2022 for a reputed £33 million with add-ons.

Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Barcelona, and other clubs have expressed interest in his performances, as Everton prepares for summer transfers.

Everton hopes to improve their financial condition by selling Onana, with a starting price of €60 million.

According to Belgian newspaper Voetbalkrant, Arsenal is experiencing financial difficulties after paying heavily on Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber, and Declan Rice last summer. The club is attempting to avoid spending excessively without exiting players.

That implies Arsenal would not ‘go higher than €50 million’ for Onana, who wants to leave 18th-placed Everton in the summer, while Barcelona will only pay €40 million.

Chelsea might then jump in and get Onana after Mauricio Pochettino’s side ‘had began negotiations’ to sign the Everton midfielder.

Chelsea has an advantage over Arsenal and Barcelona due to their willingness to pay a high price for Onana, despite spending more than £200 million on Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez in the past year.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Chelsea’s midfield is “well set” for the summer transfer window. However, Arsenal may consider pursuing Onana if Thomas Partey is sold.

On Arsenal’s interest in Onana, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano stated in January: “I’m aware there have been some major accusations made about Arsenal strengthening discussions to buy Amadou Onana from Everton. Of course, this has some Gunners fans excited, but I’m afraid it’s not nearly the information I have at this time.

“From what I understand, Onana has long been one of Arsenal’s favorite players, but I don’t have any further specifics at this time. Let’s see what occurs in the coming days, but it’s still time for Arsenal to

“We know Arsenal has midfield concerns because Thomas Partey has played sparingly this season due to injuries. Onana is a talented player who could provide something similar in midfield, but it’s too early to tell what will happen with Onana and Partey.

“If you remember, Partey was already considered for sale until the end of June, but Mikel Arteta decided to keep him, so anything can happen in the summer.” For the time being, things are quiet because he is injured, therefore there are no specific updates.
