“Another Premier League loan” – Norwich City backed to respond to Liverpool decision

“Another Premier League loan” – Norwich City backed to respond to Liverpool decision.

This post is part of Football League World’s ‘Terrace Talk’ series, which features personal comments from FLW Fan Pundits on breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings, and more.

Kaide Gordon has returned to Premier League leaders Liverpool after the club decided to recall him from his loan spell with Johannes Hoff Throup’s Norwich City side.

The winger moved from Anfield to Carrow Road in the summer but struggled to make an impact in Norfolk, making only 10 appearances between now and last summer, highlighting the necessity for him to play more games elsewhere. That conclusion has finally been made between the two clubs, with the 20-year-old returning to Merseyside after playing only 181 minutes in the second tier and scoring once. Following the departure, we chatted with Football League World’s Norwich City fan pundit Zeke Downes about the issue and if his team will miss the wide player in the second half of the season.

Kaide Gordon fails to live up to expectations after Norwich City switch

As with any loanee from one of the world’s top clubs, Gordon had high expectations this season as he sought to prove himself against the best that the EFL had to offer. However, rather than shining in East Anglia, the youthful sensation has failed to find his feet, making only one appearance for the Canaries in a 2-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough in November. Aside from that, the attacker has had to make do with being introduced from the bench, and scored his only goal under such circumstances in his third appearance for the club, as he got in on the act when City overcame Hull 4-0 during his early days in his new surroundings.

Since then, his appearances have been few and far between, with a late cameo against Coventry City on New Year’s Day proving to be his final outing in a yellow and green shirt, as Amankwah Forson’s late brace flipped the game on its head in the dying moments. The writing was on the wall for the teenage forward heading into the month, and when Arne Slot’s side decided to bring him back to the North West, Downes wasn’t surprised. When asked about the circumstances, the Canaries supporter said: “Kaide Gordon’s return to Liverpool looked like it was always going to happen, because other than the first couple of games, he wasn’t really doing a lot; wasn’t getting on the pitch and wasn’t influencing anything.

“It appeared that he was not fully prepared, which is unfortunate because in the last game against Coventry, he appeared to be really interested and emotional, even telling Forson that we might go on and win after we equalised. “That is obviously something that he has learnt because he is at Liverpool and they have that mentality.”

Norwich City have the chance to make Kaide Gordon improvement in January

With the Championship play-offs still within reach moving into the second half of the season, Norwich will be one of several teams hoping to finish in the top six by the conclusion of the season. With such lofty goals, City cannot afford to have players on their books who are unable to influence games, and they have the ideal opportunity to upgrade on Gordon in the coming weeks, as they aim to build on Thorup’s mixed start at Carrow Road. The Norfolk club has already brought in another top league star on loan during January, with Aston Villa’s Lewis Dobbin [pictured] joining until the end of the season, with the 22-year-old switching to another Championship outfit after starting the season at West Bromwich Albion.

With the January transfer market still open, Downes is certain that another name will be added to the wide attacking areas before long, with Gordon’s absence quickly forgotten. He went on to say, “It’s a shame, but I don’t believe he’s at the level that we require. He might be a Championship player, but not in the mid-table or top half. “It makes sense for all parties really, and hopefully we can get another Premier League loan instead.”
