Jack Butland should be Manchester United No1 as Rangers goalie dubbed better than £47m man

John Brown is adamant that Jack Butland was robbed of the starting shirt by Manchester United.

After a difficult few years at Crystal Palace, Butland has rekindled his career at Rangers. The 30-year-old has spearheaded the Light Blues’ pursuit of a treble and may force his way back into the England team after Gareth Southgate revealed last week that the custodian was on his mind.

Butland played second fiddle to David de Gea for six months when on loan at Old Trafford last season, never kicking a ball. The Ibrox great Brown also thinks Erik ten Hag ought to be ashamed of himself for spending £47 million on Andre Onana rather than trusting Butland.

“I was always a fan of Butland,” he declared. It astonished me that he was never able to get more time south. There are many goalkeepers in the Premier League that, in my opinion, Jack Butland is superior to.

“He was Manchester United’s first choice goalie, in my opinion, therefore if I were looking for a reliable keeper, I would go with Jack Butland. Rangers’ acquisition of him is therefore excellent for the team. Additionally, he enters a club that has 50,000 fans for each home game.

“He’s playing in Europe, going for trophies, he’s got a trophy in the bag, he probably has another 10 years at the top because of the years he’s missed.”
