As a result of goals from Kalvin Phillips, Jack Clarke, and Jack Taylor, Ipswich defeated Bristol Rovers 3-0 in their

FA Cup third-round match to advance to the competition’s fourth round.

In the FA Cup’s third round, Ipswich defeated Bristol Rovers 3-0 at Portman Road, with Kalvin Phillips scoring his

first goal since December 2023.

With a curling finish that set Kieran McKenna’s team on course to defeat their Sky Bet League One opponents, the

defensive midfielder displayed his best play. Jack Taylor and Jack Clarke added goals before halftime.

Town eased off after the break but missed the chance for a fourth when Ali Al-Hamadi scuffed a penalty wide of the

post after a handball in the area.

Ipswich’s early dominance of the ball was aided by Phillips’ skill, and after fifteen minutes, a brilliant move out wide

by the Manchester City loanee was eventually brought in to the unmarked Taylor, who swung wildly and let Rovers

off the hook.

The England international reacted to cries of “shoot” with a whipped attempt that sped past goalkeeper Josh

Griffiths and into the bottom-right corner, showcasing Phillips’ skill set as he gathered the ball outside the box.

As Rovers defended from the front to seize another, Ipswich’s press kept making mistakes. Clarke was about to tap in

when left-back Lino Sousa got the ball on the spin, but he took too long in possession, letting blue shirts intercept his

errant back pass.

Rovers’ defence was not strong enough to match their Premier League opponents.

Taylor appeared to be offside for Ipswich’s third goal, but he latched on to a loose ball through the middle and

finished with the side of his foot with poise because there was no VAR and the visitors made no effort to mark the

striker.
