Washington Nationals and Houston Astros to Be Part of Some Unique Baseball History This Spring

The Houston Astros and Washington Nationals will play a historic spring training game on February 24. On that day, Jen Pawol will take the umpire position, making history as the first female official assigned to a Major League spring training game since 2007.

For sure, that is wonderful news for all of us. It’s a significant step forward for Pawol as she aspires to play in the major leagues. According to Rogers, she will begin the season in Triple-A and will have the opportunity to play in the major leagues this year.

Secondly, it benefits baseball in general. Having more female coaches and umpires is an excellent approach to show that the sport is succeeding in its efforts to become more inclusive.

What about the participating teams? They are located at two distinct locations. The Astros just finished a season in which they advanced to the ALCS before falling to the Texas Rangers in seven games. They could still be favorites in the American League World Series.

In 2023, the Nationals placed last in the National League East. They are rebuilding and have some excellent pieces, but this year they should finish similarly.
