Everton ‘prefer transfer ban’ as ‘points deduction removal’ suggested – Wyness

The 66-year-old, who ran a football consultancy advising elite teams after serving as CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009, said that a financial punishment is a more reasonable result if the deduction is reversed in an interview with Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.

After violating the Profit and Sustainability Rules of the Premier League, Everton was docked ten points in November 2023. The team decided to file an appeal. The appeal is thought to have ended on February 2nd, and a decision is expected in a few days.

Sean Dyche’s team is currently one point below Luton Town in 17th place in the Premier League relegation zone. The Toffees would move up to 13th place in the standings with 29 points if their point punishment was lifted. Everton only completed two permanent moves last summer (2023) and did not make any acquisitions during the January transfer window.

Wyness stated on the Inside Track podcast of Football Insider: “Since nothing happened, the January window essentially constituted a transfer ban for all clubs.”

“If the points deduction is lifted, I believe Everton would prefer a transfer ban.”But the penalty must be appropriate for the offense. “Given that this was a financial matter, I believe that, should the appeal be granted, a fine would be a reasonable solution.”
