
Sheffield United remain in pursuit of former Barnsley and Bradford City man despite ‘blocked’ approach
At the end of the previous season, the 28-year-old’s five-year affiliation with Sheffield United came to an end as his contract expired. Later in the summer, he made his first international move, joining Las Palmas of La Liga. McBurnie has not yet established himself in the highest division of Spanish football, but Sheffield United has reportedly expressed interest in re-signing him.Despite Las Palmas blocking an initial approach, reporter Alan Nixon has stated on his Patreon page that the Blades are still aiming for the forward. The team has also been connected to Tom Cannon and Ben Brereton Diaz, suggesting that they are eager to strengthen their front line.
In the summer, Cannon was linked to the Blades, but Stoke City defeated Leicester City in the bid to sign him on loan.While Sheffield United was relegated from the Premier League the previous season, Brereton Diaz played alongside McBurnie. He joined Southampton after permanently leaving Villareal in the summer, but he hasn’t been able to settle in at St Mary’s. McBurnie began his career with Bradford City and is well-known throughout Yorkshire. In 2015, he moved to Wales from West Yorkshire to join Swansea City, however he later played on loan at Barnsley in the county.
