Celtic sponsors troll Union Bears over Ibrox walkout as 55th minute protest backfires
Following Sunday’s dramatic failure of the Union Bears’ walkout protest at Ibrox, Celtic’s sponsors have made fun of the team. As Philippe Clement’s ailing team got back to winning ways at home against St Johnstone, Rangers ultras silently treated their struggling heroes. As the ardent supporters of the team watched in silence, only letting out their voices when banners were unfurled and blaring the board, you could have heard a pin drop in the Copland Stand singing section.
The vast majority of the spectators reacted angrily to their prearranged protest against the blazers in command, choosing instead to remain seated as the Light Blues won 3-1. As they continue to demand change in the dugout and the boardroom, the unbowed ultras made it clear that their protests will not end. “We are grateful to all Rangers supporters who took part in today’s protest actions,” the statement said. We’ll keep going until our club actually changes.
However, the misguided act of disobedience caused social media chaos on the opposite side of the city, with Celtic supporters mocking the civil war that erupted in the stands. In addition, the Union Bears were ridiculed on X by the club’s front-of-shirt sponsors, Dafabet, who wrote: “While laughing at the TV, I cant’ [sic] help thinking of the fans walking out their ‘living rooms’ on the 55th minute.” The wind-up was immediately embraced by hoops fans, who even joked about “switching firesticks off at 55..” “Dafabet, I didn’t know about your game,” someone else wrote. A third, however, made the addition, “Never had a bad word to say about dafabet.”
