Burnley reignite interest in summer transfer target as Scott Parker’s men look to bolster forward line

According to various sources, Burnley has rekindled its interest in Plymouth Argyle forward Morgan Whittaker.

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, the Clarets have made an official approach for the 24-year-old striker, who recently scored the winning goal for Plymouth in the FA Cup third round against Brentford.

Sky Sports News and Fabrizio Romano have since confirmed this claim.Burnley has been contacted for comments.

The Clarets first expressed an interest in Whittaker during the summer, when they were looking to strengthen their forward line, but were unable to complete the transaction.

Whittaker has four goals in 20 appearances this season for the Green Army, who are currently at the bottom of the Championship standings.

He has scored 31 goals for Argyle in 89 games, including a loan spell before his permanent move from Swansea City.

It was claimed near the close of the summer window that Plymouth had turned down Burnley’s overtures for the forward, which were thought to be an initial loan with a buy option.

Former manager Wayne Rooney stated publicly that his top player was not for sale.

“We received a bid that is far apart from anything we would consider. “It was laughable,” he added.

“I think any bids we receive now, even if they get to the money which we would actually look at, is going to be very difficult because it leaves you no time to replace Morgan Whittaker because he’s such a top player.”
