West Brom ‘unlikely’ to appoint Tony Mowbray

West Bromwich Albion are yet to appoint their next manager, but it will not be Tony Mowbray, according to Brian Dick.

The Birmingham Mail journalist has negated reports of Mowbray’s potential return to the Hawthorns.

The Baggies are currently without a manager after Carlos Corberan left the club to join Spanish outfit Valencia.

Earlier today, The Sun journalist Alan Nixon claimed that Mowbray, who is taking a break from football after leaving Birmingham City last season due to health reasons, is ready to join the Baggies as their next manager.

He adds that the 61-year-old boss has met Albion twice and is available for work. The highly experienced boss will only be considered after getting final clearance about health issues in the next fortnight.

However, Dick writes: “BirminghamLive understands that is unlikely to be timeframe in which Albion are operating therefore negating the prospect of a return to The Hawthorns.”

Swiss coach Raphael Wicky is another name who could be considered an option for West Brom.

Mowbray had a three-year spell with the Baggies from 2006-09 and won promotion with them to the Premier League in 2008.

He has enjoyed a long management career with Blackburn Rovers and Sunderland, and could be the perfect man to take the Baggies back to the Premier League again.

West Brom are sixth in the Championship table with 40 points and they should aim to qualify for the play-offs this season.

Having said that, West Brom could look for young managers who are tactically astute and implement an attractive brand of football.

Meanwhile, Nixon claims that West Brom winger Jed Wallace is being targeted by Blackburn in case they miss out on Crystal Palace’s Jeffrey Schlupp.

Oliver Glasner does not want to lose his players this month, which means Rovers can move for Wallace in the coming days.
