Tonight’s Cardiff City news as star makes instant impact and agent speaks out on transfer interest

Ryotaro Tsunoda impressed on his second KV Kortrijk debut, after the Belgian club promoted him to the starting lineup just days after signing him on loan.

The Cardiff centre-back, who has yet to feature for the Welsh club, was loaned out to KVK this week. The Bluebirds hope to make room in their squad for transfers this month.

The Japanese defender received praise for his first loan stay in Belgium last year, but he suffered a horrific hamstring injury in April and had not played a competitive senior game since – until Friday’s Kortrijk match.

Tsunoda began at centre-half and played the entire 90 minutes, an impressive performance given that he had only played a couple of under-21s matches for Cardiff prior to Friday’s Jupiler Pro League encounter against Standard Liege.

“Moving my life forward again,” he posted on Instagram.

Tsunoda was Kortrijk’s second-best performer, scoring 7.45/10, after only Abdelkahar Kadri (7.88). However, Kortrijk, ranked 15th out of 16 teams in Belgium’s premier division, defeated 1-0.

The agency of Poland international Jakub Kaluzinski has reported that Cardiff City are interested in signing the midfielder and willing to pay more than £3 million for him.

According to Reşat Can Özbudak of Sports Digitale, Cardiff made an official proposal for the Antalyaspor player, but the 22-year-old rejected the offer because he wanted to move to “a bigger club”.

Celtic were apparently interested in the defensive midfielder in the summer, as were Real Valladolid of La Liga, with a transfer value of roughly £3.5 million being discussed.
