Alan Brazil has been fairly persistent this morning over a text message he received suggesting that Brendan Rodgers could be on his way to West Ham.
The Irishman is over halfway through his three-year Celtic contract, having made a spectacular and unexpected return in June 2023.
Celtic won the domestic and European double after a difficult start last season. Julen Lopetegui, the replacement for Davie Moyes at West Ham, has already raised concerns at the London Stadium.
While he struggles, Rodgers’ impact on the Champions League and familiarity with the English game will undoubtedly have some people connecting the dots.
Listening to TalkSPORT this morning, with Gabby Agbonlahor co-hosting, West Ham Zone reports:
Brazil stated on talkSPORT [21 November, 6:10am]: “I received a text last night mentioning Brendan [Rodgers] for West Ham.” What? How about Brendan Rodgers? He can’t leave, given how Celtic are playing.
Agbonlahor responded, “Not with how Celtic are playing in the Champions League.” They have a possibility of making the playoffs, so he isn’t going anywhere.
Brazil said: “I don’t know if it’s just my mate winding me up since he is a Celtic fan or he’s heard anything,” before Agbonhlahor eventually said: “I don’t think they’ll sack Lopetegui yet. “I believe they will give him more time.
The text/rumour/story was discussed twice more before 8 a.m.
Rodgers is expected to receive a warm welcome at the 2024 Celtic AGM on Friday, and conversations over a new contract with Dermot Desmond will take place later this season. The pull of the EPL will be less appealing to the Celtic manager now that he is in charge of Liverpool and Leicester City.
