Celtic given transfer rejection explanation as Rangers make goalkeeper contract decision.

A roundup of the latest Rangers and Celtic transfer rumours.

The transfer window may have closed, but the rumour mill continues to churn in Glasgow. Despite the intense title chase between Rangers and Celtic, preparations for the summer season will continue behind the scenes.

The Hoops have a chance to increase their advantage at the top of the Premiership, while Rangers focus on their cup run.

Away from the action, GlasgowWorld has covered the latest transfer news from Ibrox and Parkhead. This is the daily round-up for Saturday, February 10.

Celtic snub explanation

According to Brondby manager Jesper Sorensen, Celtic’s offer for Mathias Kvistgaarden was declined due to the club’s desire to

retain their top players. According to reports, the Hoops were planning a £4 million bid for the forward, who has previously represented Denmark at the under-21 level.

“There are then some market factors that work in a specific way that can alter that. But I’ve spoken my mind.

Cartsen V. Jensen (Brondby’s director of football) was also clear early on that we have no intention of trading our best players.

“I can’t go in and grab players every time I’ve heard rumours about them but, in relation to Kvistgaarden, it has been important to tell him that he must do everything he can. He must do his best and train to become a better player every single day.

He must focus on what lies ahead of him in Brondby.”

Goalie allowed to leave

Jon McLaughlin will not be offered a new deal at the end of the season, according to reports. The 36-year-old, who arrived almost four years ago, has not played for Rangers all season.

Jack Butland is the uncontested number one at Ibrox and has been one of the Gers’ star performers in 2023-24, surrendering only 12 goals. Robby McCrorie has been elevated to understudy, leaving McLaughlin in third place.

According to Football Insider, Rangers will not renew his contract this summer. McLaughlin has made 46 appearances for the Teddy Bears after joining on a free transfer from Sunderland.
