Sky Sports: Fabian Hurzeler says it was ‘good feeling’ to taste victory again for Brighton.
Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler was overjoyed to see his team return to winning ways, winning 4-0 at Norwich to go to the FA Cup fourth round. The Seagulls had gone eight Premier League games without a win, with six draws, but they finally won at Carrow Road thanks to a strong performance. Georginio Rutter scored twice in the first half, before Julio Enciso and Solly March added goals after the break. “It doesn’t matter whether it is the Premier League or the FA Cup, winning is always a good feeling and it was good to have it again today,” Hurzeler told the BBC. “It boosts confidence, and ideally we can now take this to the Premier League.
“I thought we struggled for the first 15 to 20 minutes, and Norwich had their only big chance when they hit the post.” “But then we found our rhythm, played some good football, and scored some good goals. Norwich gave a good account of themselves in the early stages, with Amankwah Forson hitting the upright from distance, but the game was over when Rutter scored twice in eight minutes just before halftime. To open the scoring, the Dutchman headed home a wonderful cross from fellow countryman Joel Veltman, then firing home via a deflection off Callum Doyle in the final action of the half.
Brighton then gained entire charge, scoring two more goals. Enciso caught City substitute Brad Hills in possession on the hour mark and scored from a tight angle, while March, another substitute, capped the scoring by curling home from distance following a difficult offside call. Norwich head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup stated that the game was a vital part of his Championship team’s learning process. “I thought it was a good game for us to have at this moment – to show us the difference between us and the Premier League and what we have to do,” he told reporters.
“I believe we had some fantastic moments, particularly in the first half, and with a bit of luck could have gone ahead. “But then we saw Premier League excellence, such as passing with one touch rather than two. “That put us under a bit of pressure, and we made a few mistakes, but we kept trying to play the game our way rather than just waiting it out. “I thought there were some positives out there – but also things we need to improve on.” City lost crucial midfielder Marcelino Nunez to injury in the second half, and Thorup said: “That was the worst thing about the game.
“It’s a hamstring, not the one he injured before, and all we do can do now is wait for the scans.”
