West Ham confirm player’s return to Hammers as Motherwell make transfer move for Norwich City talent
After West Ham United decided to recall goalkeeper Krisztian Hegyi from his loan at Fir Park, Motherwell made the move to recruit Archie Mair of Norwich City. After signing a long-term Irons contract, the Hungarian goalkeeper was brought into ML1 in the summer, but Aston Oxborough’s performance has prevented him from playing competitively outside of two Premier Sports Cup group stage games. His loan has a condition that requires him to return to West Ham United this month.West Ham United can confirm that teenage goalkeeper Krisztián Hegyi has been called back from his loan with Motherwell, a team in the Scottish Premiership, according to a statement released by the club. The 22-year-old joined the Steelmen at the beginning of the 2024–25 season and helped them reach the semi-finals of the Scottish League Cup by starting two of their wins over Clyde and Edinburgh City. The Hungarian international will now rejoin West Ham United at Rush Green to further his career growth.
Prior to Motherwell’s match against Hibs on Saturday, Oxborough had an injury that compelled manager Stuart Kettlewell to bring in a goalkeeper. Mair, who had senior experience with Gateshead, Notts County, and Morecambe, was a prospect at Aberdeen who was signed by Norwich.”We always need at least three goalkeepers around,” Norwich City’s head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup stated earlier this week. “It’s about time Archie Mair gets out there to get some game minutes.” We can reasonably anticipate finding a club to loan Archie to.”It’s fantastic to have Archie join us for this afternoon’s game against Hibernian,” Kettlewell stated. He has some experience because he has played a lot of games at different skill levels. Over the past 24 hours, navigating this scenario has not been simple. We lost Krisztían to West Ham and then Aston Oxborough due to injury, but we have a great goalie coming in who will compete with Aston for the top slot.
Kai Andrews, a midfielder on loan from Coventry City, is the only other player Motherwell has signed this transfer window. “It was a tough game to come on for my debut,” he remarked of the transfer following his midweek debut in a stalemate with Kilmarnock. Even though it was a really hectic evening, we managed to gain a crucial point that we can build upon in Saturday’s match.Of course, I liked it. It was an excellent approach for me to begin my loan period. It wasn’t until last weekend that it was confirmed that I would be heading up here. On Monday, I received a call informing me that my flight had been scheduled. The twenty-four hours were hectic. On the first day, though, I was assisted in settling in by all of the guys and staff.
“The guys helped me get settled in well, and the training session on Tuesday went well. Everyone has welcomed me extremely well. My major goal was to get here. I’ve heard a lot about the team and how the manager has given loan players and younger players a lot of opportunities.I”It was a fantastic opportunity for me to come here, gain the experience I’ve been lacking, and play for the first team. I can infuse the midfield with a lot of energy. My ability to run is one of my greatest assets; I believe I can give the squad an extra pair of legs and some encouragement with all the guys looking to play forward. I can be my best self and perhaps help the squad once I’ve properly adapted to the group and learned its rules and style of play.”
