Sheffield Wednesday have January options for ex-Man Utd starlet as number of clubs register interest
In the event that Sheffield Wednesday decides to pursue a loan move for teenage forward Charlie McNeill, the club will not be lacking in choices, according to The Star’s understanding.
The former Manchester United youth player, who joined with Wednesday in the summer despite interest from a number of teams both domestically and internationally, has not yet been granted a significant amount of chances, despite the fact that manager Danny Rol has expressed his contentment with the way he is progressing at Middlewood Road.
Back in August, McNeill had a dazzling start for the Owls, scoring twice in a victory against Hull City in the Carabao Cup. However, since then, his experience in Championship games has been restricted to two substitute appearances.
Even though there is a long number of offensive alternatives available on Wednesdays, he has not been selected for the matchday squad for either of their most recent two league matches.
At this point, it seems that a decision will most likely be made during the next few weeks of the transfer window that occurs in January.
There are a number of teams in League One and in the Scottish Premiership who have shown interest in signing McNeill on loan for the duration of the season, according to The Star’s understanding.
In the event that the club decides to pursue the option to bring him out on loan, the decision will be left up to them. Given the current state of affairs, it is felt that it is more possible that McNeill’s development is maintained inside the company.
Prior to the FA Cup match against Coventry City on Wednesday, Rohl said that “we improve players and now they play on a good level.” McNeill was referring to the players.
“This is the reason I took Charlie in the summer, he needs now more minutes. He needs this, let’s see.
He is playing presently at the 10 position, particularly in a 5-2-3, his best position is the 10 position and it’s not really accessible. These are all the items we must make a choice on.
“Charlie is a good example, he keeps going on his work. He is not receiving minutes yet his training performance is superb time and again.
This is fantastic to observe and this is a fundamental to develop players.”
