Dion Sanderson reveals John Eustace phone call that led to Birmingham City exit
Dion Sanderson has reunited with former Birmingham City boss John Eustace at Blackburn Rovers
Dion Sanderson only required a brief phone call from John Eustace to sign a loan deal with Blackburn Rovers for the
second half of the season.
After struggling to obtain first team opportunities at St Andrew’s at Knighthead Park, Sanderson has reconnected
with former Birmingham City manager Eustace at Ewood Park. This season, Sanderson has only appeared in two
league games for the Blues.
In Chris Davies’ defensive hierarchy, the previous captain of the team is now behind Rangers loanee Ben Davies,
Christoph Klarer, and Krystian Bielik. During the first half of the season, Sanderson has participated in seven games
overall.
The 25-year-old has been given an opportunity to play in the Championship by Eustace, and Sanderson will face
Danny Batth and Dom Hyam for a spot in Rovers’ starting lineup. Sanderson has connected with Eustace at a third
club by joining Rovers.
“I had him at QPR when he was the assistant and I got on really well with him, then he went to Birmingham City as a
manager,” Sanderson remarked after joining Rovers. He rang me and asked if I wanted to play football, which I
responded was a lot of fun.
“Every match I participated in under him was excellent. I adore his style of play, and his staff is classy. He’s a terrific
manager to play for. I wanted to come and play for Blackburn because of his hunger and desire for the supporters,
which I have witnessed at this club but particularly in Birmingham.
“He’s a manager I want to play for and work with. It makes it easier to come down to Blackburn knowing how he
wants to play and what he wants from his players.”
