Celtic star makes ‘more to come’ claim as Rangers icon praises key decision which made him a ‘believer’ again

Rangers have returned to the title race after overcoming a seven-point deficit.

Celtic’s midweek success over Hibs was inspired by January signing Adam Idah, who scored two penalties.

The Republic of Ireland international has had a fantastic start at Parkhead, scoring two goals and providing one assist in his first two games.

Idah admits that his dance routines still need a lot of work following a pivotal night in Edinburgh, but he promises fans that there will be much more from him in the coming months as Celtic compete with Rangers for the crown.

He told The Herald, “It’s an incredible feeling.” Getting the goal and three points was amazing, and doing it in front of the away fans was incredible, so I’m overjoyed.

“This is one of the better starts I’ve had. The main goal was to gain three points. It was a challenging game, but overall I’m pleased of the guys, and getting three points topped it all off.

“That was unbelievable. Even just scoring in front of the crowd was an incredible experience. It was great to witness how they reacted after scoring a last-minute goal. That reflects the spirit of the changing room. Hopefully, we can continue to score three points each week.

“Right now, we’re taking each game as it comes. This was a tremendous game with big three-pointers. Hopefully, we can continue to win.”

Rangers legend and five-time Premiership winner Barry Ferguson has praised Gers manager Philippe Clement for the impact he has had on the team since his arrival in mid-October.

Ferguson, who made over 400 appearances for Rangers across two spells, admitted that he had lost faith in his former team’s hopes of winning the title after a bleak start under former boss Michael Beale. At the end of Beales’ tenure Rangers were already seven points adrift of leaders Celtic after just seven matches.

Ferguson stated to the Daily Record that he was concerned about his team’s chances of winning the title. As a player, I believed that you had to fight until the end, regardless of whether you were five, ten, or fifteen points behind. But after watching Rangers’ 3-1 defeat to the Dons at Ibrox, I was quite concerned about where they were headed.

The 46-year-old praised the Rangers board for taking their time after Beale’s departure to find the proper successor, saying the decision is finally paying off for the squad.

Ferguson explained: “They could have rushed into an appointment and compounded one bad move in giving the gig to Beale with another. But this time they bought themselves a bit of time by bringing Steven Davis and Alex Rae in as caretakers and used the October international to do their homework on Philippe Clement. And so far, it’s paying off.

“The Viaplay Cup is theirs, and if they can beat managerless Ross County by two goals on Tuesday, they may be sitting atop the Premiership table, gazing down at the others. That would be an extraordinary success in and of itself, given the club’s situation when the new manager took over. But if they believe getting to this point has been difficult, I have to tell them that the real work has just begun.”

Ferguson has been involved in his fair share of title races at Ibrox during his playing days and claims the mental pressure will only multiply as they go against defending champions Celtic in the run-in.

He goes on to say, “Listen, Celtic may be struggling right now, and they weren’t great at Easter Road.” But they know how to win championships, so the Rangers must go out every week with a laser-like focus. They cannot afford to wake up on a Saturday morning thinking, “Maybe they will drop points today.” No, you must go out every week believing they will win because this is what keeps your mind focused on achieving achievements.

“Rangers simply need to be hyper-focused for the next three and a half months. They must remain focused and respectful of Celtic’s abilities. Rangers have an excellent chance if they focus on one thing: themselves. But I have faith in the manager.”
