tattoos are just anything he “feels like getting” at the moment. However, one in particular holds a lot of significance for

Rafaela, the Brazilian’s sister, died of cancer a little over six years ago. She is the subject of the tattoo. Morato plays for

significance for him.

A little more than six years ago, Rafaela, the Brazilian’s sister, passed away from cancer. The tattoo’s focus is on her.

Morato invites her along and plays for her.

When Morato was rising through the ranks at Sao Paulo, he became friends with a young fan back home as a result

of the death of his sister. A young girl named Larissa became the team’s fortunate mascot in 2019 after he and the

club won the Copinha, the most renowned Under-20s competition in the nation, on penalties.

Larissa had brain cancer. Before the Copinha final, against Vasco, all the Sao Paulo players shaved their heads as a

show of strength for the youngster and a way of thanking her for her support. Morato, however, asked the young girl

to shave his head for him in the dressing room before the team went out on to the pitch.

“She was a girl who had cancer in Brazil and she had followed all the matches of the youth team I was playing in at

the time,” Morato recalls via a translator. “That was in January 2019 and a year earlier, in August 2018, I had lost my

sister to cancer so it was very special for me to see that and very emotional for me.

“At the end, as a team, we all came together and gave her a present. It is a present we as players will never forget and

hope that she won’t either. I still keep in touch with her.”

Sao Paulo won the shootout thanks to a penalty kick from Morato. However, he has been contributing to Forest at

the opposite end of the pitch.

Although he was primarily limited to a substitute role thus far after joining from Benfica in the summer, he has

undoubtedly taken advantage of those chances. The Reds’ first half of the season has been characterised by defensive

steadiness, and Morato has undoubtedly contributed to this.

Because head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has trusted him to help see out some crucial games, he has made 13

appearances in the Garibaldi, 11 of which have come off the bench. Only one goal has been given up by the Reds

while he has been.
