Southampton star Aaron Ramsdale lined up for Premier League switch in potential fourth transfer since 2020

After losing the starting position at Arsenal, the 26-year-old only transferred to St. Mary’s in August. However, Magpies manager Eddie Howe is a big fan of the England international, so he might be headed for yet another move. There have been rumors that the Magpies may try to sign Ramsdale this month in light of Martin Dubravka’s potential departure. It is acknowledged, although, that the St. James’ Park team lacks the money necessary to recruit the player during the winter transfer window. Howe is keen to keep Dubravka with the team until the summer, despite reports that he has an agreement in place to join Al-Shabab of Saudi Arabia.

The Slovakian’s contract with Newcastle is currently in its last six months, and the team might lose him for nothing. In the meantime, there are still concerns about whether injured goalie Nick Pope is a good fit for Newcastle. As a result, Newcastle is considering a move for Ramsdale at the end of the current campaign. Ramsdale only signed a deal with Southampton for an initial £18 million last summer.

It would be his fourth permanent move since 2020 if he were to leave the south coast side later this year. He joined Sheffield United from Bournemouth that year after the Cherries were demoted from the Premier League. After failing to keep the Blades in the top division, he signed a £30 million contract with the Gunners just a year later. Ramsdale was Bernd Leno’s backup at the beginning of the 2021–2022 season, but he soon rose to the top and won over the Emirates’ supporters.

However, Ramsdale’s position in goal was in doubt as David Raya moved to Arsenal in 2023. Ramsdale spent most of the previous season on the bench as it soon became apparent that the Spaniard was Mikel Arteta’s number one. Ramsdale’s team is currently at the bottom of the standings with just six points from 20 games, indicating that things haven’t gone as planned at Southampton this season. He has scored an incredible 27 goals in 13 Premier League games while only keeping two clean sheets.
