Rangers: Official letter sent to SPFL amid ‘troubling concerns’ after report published

Together with five other elite clubs, Rangers have sent a combined letter criticizing the SPFL and its chairman, Murdock MacLennan.Responding to the handling of the recent Independent Governance report after “serious concerns” were raised about its independence, transparency, and the overall governance of the SPFL, the Gers, Aberdeen, Motherwell, Livingston, St Johnstone, and St Mirren sent the letter on Thursday, February 8, via Chris Jack. The letter asked the SPFL’s executives to clarify the “deeply troubling concerns as a matter urgenof cy,” after alleging that just one of the 42 member clubs had the chance to participate in the report’s examination.

Rangers and other SPFL clubs want answers

After this situation has bee handled so poorly, Rangers and the other SPFL clubs involved in the joint letter are well within their rights to demand answers. This will bring greater attention to the issues at hand, about which there has long been concern over the management of the Scottish leagues. The fact that just one of the 42 member clubs was permitted to participate in the process is utterly unjust and undermines any sense of independence. It’s about time that each and every one of those clubs received the same treatment because the league exists to represent the entire pyramid. This letter will have increased pressure on the senior decision-makers, so it will be fascinating to see what the SPFL has to say in response.
