Jamie Redknapp has opened out about Leon Bailey after the star of Aston Villa’s midweek victory over Manchester City.

Speaking on Sky Sports (broadcast on September 12 at 17:06), Redknapp expressed his worries about the Jamaica international’s suitability for the Premier League prior to the Villans’ victory over Arsenal on Saturday.

Before this season, Leon Bailey has appeared in 54 games in all competitions with the Villans, tallying six goals and dishing out six assists.

Jamie Redknapp Acknowledges his Hrror with Leon Bailey

In the first 22 games of this season, he has already surpassed those totals. At this point, Bailey has eight goals and seven assists, nine of which have come from Premier League play.

The most recent was on Saturday against Arsenal, when he put up John McGinn for the winning goal. Jamie Redknapp also acknowledged, in a pregame interview, that the winger has totally shown him incorrect this season.

They pose a threat in every part of the field. I didn’t think Leon Bailey was good enough for the Premier League. He said to Sky Sports, “I mean, look at him now—he’s scoring goals against Manchester City that win.”

Aston Villa most definitely in title contention

In truth, what Redknapp said about Bailey could potentially apply to a number of players within the Villa squad.

Unai Emery has been able to make signings. However, what he has done with a number of the players already at the club is remarkable.

Bailey had the appearance of a gifted player who would never reach his full potential at Villa Park. At £25 million, he had seemed like a good signing. However, in the early going of this campaign, he has discovered another level.

And with their victories over the Gunners and Manchester City, Aston Villa is now vying for the Premier League crown.

Bailey is just one of the Villa team’s many game-changers. Additionally, they’ll think that there’s no reason why they can’t keep up with the elite competitors.
