“I think it’s remarkable” – Claim made with Sheffield United and Norwich City set to seal player agreement.
This post is part of Football League World’s ‘Terrace Talk’ series, which features personal comments from FLW Fan Pundits on breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings, and more.
Norwich City are expected to sign Anis Ben Slimane from Sheffield United for £1.2 million after activating a permanent option feature in his loan agreement.
According to Conor Southwell, the 23-year-old will sign a contract keeping him at Carrow Road until the summer of 2028. Slimane joined with the Blades in the summer of 2023, but struggled for playing time under Chris Wilder, prompting a loan move to Norwich on deadline day last August. So far this season, the Tunisian international has appeared in 18 league games for Johannes Hoff Thorup’s side, scoring twice.

Anis Ben Slimane transfer verdict
When asked if Slimane’s signing was disappointing or merely unlucky, FLW’s Sheffield United fan pundit Jimmy from Blades Ramble argued that there were numerous reasons why he did not work out at Bramall Lane. Despite being a disappointing signing, he believes the team did well to secure a fee for him. “Anis Slimane was ultimately disappointing, but it wasn’t always his fault,” Jimmy told Football League World. “When athletes do not have the influence that everyone hopes for, cultures, systems, and a variety of other factors might play a role. “Some would claim that Slimane has not had a fair chance at Sheffield United, while others would say he hasn’t really performed to the levels that we hoped when he has got his chance.
“I think it’s remarkable that we have made money on him, and all the best in his next move to Norwich.
“He’s done okay there for them, so we’ll take the profit and everybody’s happy, I think.”
Slimane deal works out for all parties
Slimane didn’t get much playing time at Sheffield United, but he is a consistent presence in the Norwich lineup. A sum of £1.2 million is not extravagant, but it is a reasonable amount for the Blades to pay for someone who was not part of their first-team ambitions. Both teams should be pleased with the outcome of this transaction, and Slimane is now a more valuable member of the squad. The transfer market rarely produces scenarios that benefit everyone, but this is surely one of them.
