Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo, two former Rangers, are thrilled to be playing for Nigeria in the AFCON Final following an exciting victory over South Africa.

After a thrilling semi-final match between the two players, Nigeria prevailed on penalty kicks.In the 67th minute, Teboho Mokoena of South Africa scored another penalty kick to give Nigeria the lead. Teboho Ekong did the same for his country in the 90th minute.

Grant Kekana’s dismissal from the Bafana Bafana during extra time left them with just 10 players, but the Super Eagles prevailed on a beautiful night in the Ivory Coast. Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey join Nigeria in the AFCON Final.
Calvin Bassey, who currently plays for Fulham in the Premier League, participated in every minute of the match for Nigeria as they advanced to their first final since winning the AFCON championship in South Africa in 2013.

On a historic night for the country, Joe Aribo, who is still with Southampton south of the border, came off the bench in extra time, but neither player converted a penalty kick for the county.

Now, both former Rangers players will want to participate in this Sunday’s AFCON Final, which takes place against the tournament’s hosts, Ivory Coast. Sebastian Haller’s goal proved to be the game-winning goal as the Ivorians defeated the Democratic Republic of Congo 1-0 to advance to the final.

Aribo and Calvin Bassey, two Rangers players who made their Super Eagles debuts at Ibrox, left a lasting impression. Rangers are, of course, closely associated with Nigerian football.

Nigerian international Leon Balogun, a veteran of the Gers, was left out of the national squad for this year’s AFCON. Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey, who made huge financial contributions to Rangers with their respective £10 million and £23 million moves to Southampton and Ajax, are still well regarded in Glasgow.

Now, Ibrox supporters everywhere will be encouraging the duo as they get ready to try and create history this weekend at the Olympic Stadium of Ebimpé in Abidjan.

Nevertheless, one player from the Ibrox camp will support the opposing squad.
