Exclusive: West Brom ‘verbally agree’ new manager deal with Ten Hag’s ex-assistant.
West Brom have agreed to hire Rene Hake, former Manchester United deputy head coach, as their new manager, according to Football Insider sources. The 53-year-old has orally accepted an offer to replace Carlos Corberan, and contracts are currently being written up. According to Football Insider, Hake beat out Urs Fischer, John Eustace, and Raphael Wicky for the post. Dutchman Hake is available after departing Old Trafford in November following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal. He joined United in July to work with Ten Hag and Ruud van Nistelrooy, having previously managed Dutch club Go Ahead Eagles.
Hake has also managed Dutch duo FC Twente and FC Utrecht.
The Baggies have been looking for a new manager since Corberan left for La Liga strugglers Valencia on 24 December.
Chris Brunt has taken interim charge at The Hawthorns, picking up one win and two draws in four Championship games.
Hake verbally accepts West Brom manager job
In his 365 games as a manager, Hake averaged 1.30 points per game and won 128 of them. He led Utrecht to sixth place in the 2020-21 Eredivisie, but the Dutch side failed to qualify for Europe in a post-season playoff.
