‘Nasty’… Brendan Rodgers delivers double injury update after Celtic beat Hibs
Celtic’s win over Hibs last night ends Brendan Rodgers’ winless run over the Edinburgh club at Easter Road. But more importantly, it extends Celtic’s lead at the top of the table to three points which puts pressure on Rangers to win their game in hand over Ross County next Wednesday.An early Adam Idah penalty put the Hoops 1-0 up in the first five minutes but Hibs fought back in the second-half to equalise through a Dylan Levitt 60th-minute piledriver.However, Idah stepped up once again in the final minute to dispatch his second penalty of the game to seal all three points for the Parkhead side.
Although the victory was celebrated, it wasn’t free. Following a head-on collision, Stephen Welsh was substituted in the second half and was seen staggering off. Alistair Johnston was stretchered off.After the game, Rodgers was questioned about both players as the Celtics manager bemoaned the prospect of losing two more defenders to injury.According to Rodgers [Sky Sports], Alistair Johnston had a difficult day. I believe he has left for the hospital. I will therefore learn a little bit more later.The Celtic manager went on, “He felt tight on his hamstring,” in response to a question regarding Stephen Welsh. Thus, tomorrow we will need to discuss that with the medical staff.
Celtic cannot afford to have any more players out injured. Because of his terrible season-long luck with injuries, Rodgers may be without two more defenders when St. Mirren visits.Given that Greg Taylor and Cameron Carter-Vickers are both sidelined due to long-term injuries, Aaron Rodgers may have to play a patchwork back four against a strong St. Mirren team.The fact that Celtic gained three more crucial points in the Scottish Premiership battle, though, was what mattered most.In other news, “I must say”… Chris Sutton’s immediate response when Celtic departs late at Hibs.
