Southampton could get windfall as interest reported Man City starlet

Borussia Dortmund is apparently interested in Man City starlet Max Alleyne, which might be a financial bonanza for SAINTS.

The 19-year-old City youth captain signed a contract with Saints when he was 15 years old, and he moved to Etihad Stadium in October 2021.

The two teams agreed on an amazing £1.5 million transfer fee for the Bristol-born defender, who is the son of former cricketer Mark Alleyne, despite his advanced age.

Alleyne has travelled with Pep Guardiola’s team for the Club World Cup and has won two Premier League 2 and two Under-18 Premier League titles.

He was named on Guardiola’s bench in the Premier League for their 1-1 draw with Everton last month and is now attracting interest from other clubs.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Borussia Dortmund, who purchased Jadon Sancho from Man City in 2017, have made contact with the club.

Englishmen Jude Bellingham and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens have also made a successful switch to German Bundesliga giants Dortmund this decade.

Alleyne is also being pursued by Premier League teams, according to the report, but Dortmund has approached them to arrange a transaction.

Saints may receive even more money than the £1.5 million they received from Alleyne’s first sale in 2021 if they are able to come to an agreement.

The St. Mary’s team has a sell-on fee clause, which is thought to be worth up to 20%, as is typical in many deals that see teenagers change clubs.

In reality, if the player sold for £10 million, a 20% sell-on clause would compensate the player’s former club £2 million.

Saints still view England youth international Alleyne as a success story, even though he was taken before he was old enough to sign a professional contract.

The Bath Academy Centre helped to acquire Alleyne, who went on to become one of the country’s best players in his age group and turn a profit for Saints.

Although he turned down a scholarship offer from the Saints and earned his under-18 debut as a schoolboy, academy personnel will be keeping a close eye on his future.
