Everton: Jermaine Beckford slams ‘unacceptable’ on-field situation after what he’s seen.

Everton’s lack of goals is “unacceptable” according to Jermaine Beckford, and the off-field issue is not an excuse.

Abdoulaye Doucoure, an attacking midfielder, leads the Toffees’ scoring statistics this season with six goals in 18 Premier League games.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jack Harrison are next with three goals each, followed by Dwight McNeil and Vitalii Mykolenko with two.

Beckford stated on Sky Sports News [7 February, 10:35am]: “The issue is a lack of players behind the forwards.”

“For me, strikers need to do more – that’s the whole point of being a centre-forward, to score goals and win games.

“At the present, those guys haven’t contributed enough in that area. Doucoure is the leading scorer after 22 or 23 games, with six goals.

“After that, there are three goals, which is unacceptable for a squad the magnitude of Everton. The expectations are much higher than simply avoiding relegation.

“There are many events that occur off the pitch, but once you cross the white line, you know your role.

“But I’m not concerned about them being relegated, because Sean Dyche is the best person to lead Everton to safety.

“They have enough to get out of this circumstance. If they can work out the goalkeeping side of things, I don’t see Everton having a problem.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s poor goalscoring record

Calvert-Lewin, the go-to player up top, bears a lot of the blame, since he averages one goal every six games.

It goes without saying that Everton would love to have a forward who can score every other game, but Dyche has been handed this hand.

Aside from Calvert-Lewin, others must do significantly more. McNeil, for all his abilities, had only two goals in 20 games this season.

Meanwhile, Beto has only scored once in 18 games, despite high expectations. Fellow summer buy Youssef Chermiti has scored no goals in eight games.

The Toffees have maintained a number of clean sheets recently, and they scored twice in a stalemate with Tottenham last time out.

However, if goals are not scored freely, it will be impossible to escape the relegation zone.
