Brunt axes Wallace after comments – West Brom predicted XI v Bournemouth.

West Brom could make three changes to their starting lineup as they prepare for the FA Cup third round against AFC Bournemouth.

Tom Fellows, Kyle Bartley, and Alex Mowatt are all in contention for starting XI recalls at the Vitality Stadium (11 January), while Jed Wallace, Mason Holgate, and Ousmane Diakite might be dropped from the lineup against Swansea City (4 January). Chris Brunt, Albion’s interim manager, is expected to take another game in charge while the board seeks to name Carlos Corberan’s successor before meeting Stoke City in the Championship on January 18th. Brunt confessed to the Express & Star (8 January) that his squad had felt the physical affects of the tough festive schedule, but had been afforded a little period of time off to heal, which may improve the temporary boss for his team selection against a tough Premier League host.

Chris Brunt to drop three players for West Brom at Bournemouth

While the West Brom players may have struggled with exhaustion over the festive period, Brunt will be most pleased if no further injuries occur. There may be thought to give Joe Wildsmith a chance between the sticks, but the calibre of Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth may see Brunt play it safe and remain with Alex Palmer, while bringing Bartley into the backline after being benched at Swansea. Darnell Furlong, Torbjorn Heggem, and Callum Styles should retain their positions to complete the defence, while Mowatt’s return provides a huge boost, replacing Diakite, who has filled in for the previous three games. Jayson Molumby should remain in the middle of the park alongside him.

Wallace has only played intermittent action in recent weeks, including an hour at Swansea, but the rotation is expected to come to an end against the top-flight Cherries, with the in-form Tom Fellows returning to the XI. Mikey Johnston should be deployed again on the left wing, with Karlan Grant dropping back significantly to allow the underdog Baggies to contribute more off the ball. Josh Maja should once again lead the line, having netted 12 goals this season so far.
