The Everton loanee opened the score against the defending champions with a superb goal.
Loanee of Everton Neal Maupay scored the first goal against Manchester City, extending his recent upward trend in goal scoring.
The 27-year-old Maupay opened the score against Pep Guardiola‘s team as Brentford attempted to pull off an unexpected victory over City, who was vying for the title. A Phil Foden hat-trick, though, swiftly put an end to that, as the striker scored his sixth goal overall for the London team after joining on a temporary basis from Everton.
Maupay was given another shot at the beginning of this season after struggling under both Frank Lampard and Sean Dyche the previous year. However, he did not live up to expectations after squandering two significant opportunities in the season’s opening match against Fulham. He left for his former club in the hopes of restarting his supposedly declining career, as crowd frustration was strong. This loan stint does, however, come with a buyout commitment, estimated to be worth around £15 million (€18 million). This would be a huge financial coup for the team, and his current form would probably help to close the deal.
Additionally, Youssef Chermiti, a 19-year-old who signed in the summer, is regarded highly by the team and is anticipated to be a player for the future despite his struggles to obtain playing time and lack of effect thus far.
Before moving to Everton, he scored 10 goals in his debut season at Brighton. He then scored eight goals in the next two seasons, but last season he only scored one, making him the most recent striker to struggle in the Blue shirt. Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto are currently going through that; thus far, the loanee’s efforts have equaled their combined total of four goals. Since Romelu Lukaku left the team in 2017, Everton has really spent close to £100 million on forwards, but the most have failed to have a significant impact; Calvert-Lewin is the only forward who consistently scores goals during the course of a season.
But if it keeps up, goals—or the lack of them—will become a major problem for their Premier League standing. They are in fierce competition with teams like Luton Town and Nottingham Forest, therefore it will be extremely difficult for them to avoid relegation once more.
