Philippe Clement finds £35m plug for Rangers gap as fan fears begin to evaporate

As supporters’ concerns start to fade, Philippe Clement finds a £35 million plug to close the Rangers gap.

As the debate over Rangers’ striker position rages on, Fabio Silva may have convinced Philippe Clement that he is the right guy to take over.

There was a sense of dissatisfaction even after a successful transfer window, during which the Portuguese forward signed a Wolves loan, as an all-around attacker never made the switch to Rangers.

Although he is making a comeback, Cyriel Dessers is a man who has been criticized due to the injuries that devastated Danilo’s first season in Glasgow and the unreliability of Kemar Roofe (more on him later).

When Abdallah Sima, who scored 15 goals in the first half of the season, sustains a long-term injury, Rangers suddenly appear woefully deficient at the top of the park.

But, as Philippe Clement could be able to cover the £35 million striker gap at Ibrox, Fabio Silva’s early goal for Rangers against Livingston has helped to ease some of the forward pressure.

Striker Fabio Silva of the Rangers

The Rangers manager has been clear ever since Silva joined that the striker can lead the line and since bringing him into the club has put that money where his mouth is.

The 21-year-old Portuguese striker is still getting chances in the forward section of the pitch, and he appears to be a smart, agile, and—most importantly—potent forward at the end of the match.

In truth, Silva’s short, if underappreciated, career to far has been defined by his inability to score goals; Rangers will be seen as an oasis where things may alter.

There will be plenty of opportunities as the Gers are expected to dominate games. When you add Fabio Silva’s technical skills and unwavering in-game effort, we suddenly don’t appear to be that short on choices up top after all.

Loanee from Wolves expands options

While Rangers supporters would be quick to criticize the manager for being overly optimistic, there is a chance that the striker makes an impact this season. Rangers boss Philippe Clement also recently hinted that Kemper Roofe will be back sooner rather than later.

Cyriel Dessers, Fabio Silva, and Kemar Roofe would offer Rangers three alternatives for strikers, and maybe there was a plan all along in January.

While there are still lingering connections to players like Lawrence Shankland, Rangers will need to address this during the summer in order to compete this season.

But would the club’s success this season come from the arrivals of Oscar Cortes, Mohamed Diomande, and Fabio Silva?
