Ben Godfrey has used social media to send a message to Ipswich fans after completing his loan move to the club.

The 26-year-old joins Kieran McKenna’s side on a six-month loan from Serie A side Atalanta, after joining the Italian club from Everton in the summer. Godfrey has failed to make an impression at Atalanta, starting none of his five appearances in all competitions and scoring zero goals in 93 minutes of action. Football Insider reported (January 3) that Ipswich were in pole position to sign the centre-back, and they have already beaten eight other clubs to his signature. Godfrey told the club’s in-house media team: “I’ve really enjoyed speaking with the Manager (Kieran McKenna), and to have the opportunity to work under him now is something I’m very excited about.”

Ipswich are on the rise following an amazing first home win of the season over Chelsea and a 2-2 draw with Fulham in their last two Premier League matches. Godfrey attended Ipswich’s draw at Craven Cottage on Sunday (January 5), with the East Anglian side now in 18th place, level on points with Wolves in 17th, who have 16 from 20 games. The centre-back is a fully fledged England international, having gained two caps in 2021 while playing for Everton. Godfrey looks to be enthusiastic about the challenge ahead, posting on Instagram: “Buzzin to be joining Ipswich Town on loan for the remainder of the season.. eager for the new chapter and challenge. Let’s go. “Thank you as always.”
