Lofty Hamza Igamane asking price floated as Rangers told to stand firm

Lofty Hamza Igamane asking price floated as Rangers told to stand firm.

Hamza Igamane is starting to look like Rangers’ biggest current asset.

The Moroccan striker is on fire and continued his hot streak with a brilliantly executed hat-trick against Hibs, the clear positive despite another sad defeat. It took the 22-year-old some time to adapt in, but after being forced into a starting role by Philippe Clement, he has more than repaid his boss. Igamane now has seven Premier League goals in 16 games, as well as four goals in four Europa League matches. It’s not just his ambitions; he’s also a trickster, as well as physically strong and capable of leading the queue. Igamane’s form has sparked interest from English Premier League clubs just months into his time with the Gers.

Everton were not on the first list of clubs identified, but were added after sending scouts to witness him score against Tottenham. Kris Boyd claims he is not shocked by the attention from England, despite admitting he was mistaken about Igamane in his earlier statement. But that all leaves Rangers in a predicament regarding what to do next.

Should Rangers sell Igamane?

It is unclear whether the interested clubs want to sign Igamane this month or in the summer. Regardless, the Ibrox club would be seeking to make a significant profit after paying only £1.7 million to buy him from AS FAR in the summer. But what kind of price should they look for? The Open Goal panel has disputed this, believing Rangers should demand a high fee. Andy Halliday claims his former club has been terrible at selling players at the appropriate time and for the right price, and he believes now is the perfect opportunity to do it.

He said: “This is what Rangers have done wrong for years. See if somebody comes in with a big offer, you sell them.

“It goes back to the start of the season when Philippe Clement says everyone has got a price except Jack Butland.

“A 30-year-old goalie, you can’t replace him? Of course you’re selling him!”

When asked if £15million would be the fee, he said: “It’s too early to say.”

But Tony Watt insisted: “I don’t think they sell him under £12m. Upwards of £15m.

“£10m, you’re not taking.”

  • Rangers fans raise Igamane fearRangers fans are concerned that they will not get to see Igamane in royal blue for too long. While Clement claims his star player is improving faster than planned, he adds: “I get a lot of questions at the start of the season about why we made that transfer. “So it’s great that people can see why now, and it’s someone that is very eager to improve. “He took big advances in the previous three, four months, technically, tactically, and even physically, to adjust to the rhythm that we play in the league, as well as to obtain more playing minutes.

“So it’s exciting to see a young guy, where we knew he had a lot of talent, but there was a lot of work to do with.

“I had a lot of contact with people in Morocco about that before we signed him, and everybody said he will need at least one year to be a starting XI player.

“So he’s taking faster steps than people predicted.”
