Philippe Clement makes ‘Afraid’ admission after what he saw at Rangers

Before Rangers’ match against Aberdeen on Tuesday, February 6, in the Scottish Premiership,

Philippe Clement has acknowledged that he had higher expectations of the opposition.

The only game the Gers have lost under the Belgian since he joined the team in October was a 2-1

loss to their Old Firm opponents on December 30.

A win over The Dons would put the Ibrox squad level with Celtic in the standings, giving them the

opportunity to blast the title race wide open. However, Clement has acknowledged that the

opposition in the league lacks guts when playing his team.

“What I want for Scottish football is that managers who are coming in are brave to play,” he stated

in a Monday, February 5, interview with The Scottish Sun. One more step needs to be taken.

“I occasionally observe how they are constructed and technically in the warm-up. So it’s not visible

to me in the game. After all, I find it somewhat unfortunate.

There are teams who take action and teams that shy away from taking action. I am aware that occasionally people will claim it is not feasible.

More difficult task for the Rangers
Rangers could have a far tougher assignment against Aberdeen on Tuesday night, as they would like, as Neil Warnock’s arrival will present Clement with a whole new set of challenges.
The former Middlesbrough and Leeds United manager was only appointed on Monday, so he hasn’t had much time to acclimate his new team, but the Gers face a far tougher assignment than normal.

Having defeated the Ibrox team twice and drawn once in their previous five games, the Berdeen are already a formidable foe for the Gers. Warnock will increase the visitors’ chances of coming away from Rangers with at least a point.

The Rangers players will have the added incentive of being able to defeat their Old Firm opponents if they can achieve a goal differential of plus three, though, as there are just three points separating Clement’s club from the top spot in the Scottish Premiership.

In other Rangers news, Halliday has pointed out one benefit that the team has over Celtic in the race for the championship this year.
