Everton: Ian Wright hails Jarrad Branthwaite as Tottenham transfer call made
Ian Wright is a big fan of “very, very good” Jarrad Branthwaite after watching the Everton defender in action against Tottenham.
Branthwaite scored a late equaliser for the Toffees in Saturday’s (3 February) Premier League contest at Goodison Park in a 2-2 draw. The 21-year-old, who spent last season on loan with PSV, has previously been linked with Manchester United [ESPN, 19 January].Speaking on Wrighty’s House podcast [5 February, 38m 51s], Wright said: “I do like Branthwaite. I think he’s very, very good. He’s got something.”When guest Ryan Hunn said he thinks Branthwaite will end up at Tottenham next, Wright replied: “What, him and [Micky] van de Ven? Two left-footed speed-merchants.”
Jarrad Branthwaite attracting summer transfer interest
The unfortunate truth for Everton is that they face a real battle keeping Branthwaite on their hands.Much like John Stones eight years ago, the Toffees have one of the hottest young defensive talents anywhere in the division on their hands. The good news is that Branthwaite is under contract at Goodison Park until the summer of 2027, so Everton do not need to sell right now.The situation may change depending on the 777 Partners takeover – or more specifically, should that collapse and the Toffees require alternative funds.
For now, Branthwaite will play a key part in Everton’s relegation scrap, which looks likely to go right down to the wire. Not only is he a top-class defender, he also showed at the weekend he can chip in with the odd key moment at the other end.Should Everton stay up and the takeover go through, there is no reason why Branthwaite cannot be persuaded to stay on for a few more years yet.
