Norwich City transfers: Barnes, Dobbin, Jurasek analysed

CS: The choice to let Ashley Barnes leave was likely not surprising considering the circumstances and experienced players. Christian Fassnacht has already left, and we might have this conversation regarding Grant Hanley later this month.

However, if the emotional and sentimental factors are removed, the club he has joined is likely to be a bit of a surprise. Then we could have a more in-depth discussion regarding Norwich’s striker options moving forward. It appears that they will not replace Barnes immediately this time.

PD: Based on the pre-Coventry press conference, he ruled it out. It was once again centered on Lewis Dobbin, a player coming in on loan from Aston Villa who can play in all three offensive positions rather than being a specialist.

When Josh Sargent is fit, he will play at number nine. He’ll serve as the three’s center pivot. Similar to previous January, you return to bringing in Sydney van Hooijdonk after Adam Idah left. He missed out due to Sargent’s availability and goal-scoring abilities.

As a result, I believe a direct replacement acquired in January would not have much football experience. While I understand the rationale behind it, it raises the question of the desired profile.

We know the linkages to Matej Jurasek exist, and those discussions and dialogues continue, so perhaps that is the solution they want.

Barnes’ time at the club highlights faults under Stuart Webber and David Wagner’s tenure. They did load the team with experienced players, but it was only for a brief time. Norwich is currently paying the price for a lot of that.

SS: It’s natural for people to decrease between the ages of 33 and 35, therefore it’s not his fault. His downfall has been accelerated by an injury sustained at the end of last season and a polarizing head coach hire.

I get why they did it in the first place; Wagner wanted experience, and Barnes was a free agent. I’m not sure if putting two years on the table was the best move, but it was a very short-term season last year, and whether you agreed or not, that’s what they did.

According to Johannes Hoff Thorup, Dobbin’s profile differs significantly from what is already in the building. He’s someone who will go beyond and stretch defenses, which is probably what they needed.

AH: He offers a unique alternative to the existing options in the building. If Borja Sainz is banned, they will be a little weak in those areas, and he appears to be a viable choice to play.

He has made a few appearances in the Championship this season. It may not have worked out for him at West Brom, as it sometimes does, but he had a pretty fruitful period in League One with Derby a few years back, and he’s definitely a capable player. With Everton, he has played and scored in the Premier League.
