David Ornstein provides important Mario Lemina transfer update and reveals position Vitor Pereira wants to target next

The January transfer window is set to be a busy period for Wolves and Vitor Pereira.

Having already secured one signing, the Old Gold could be one of the Premier League’s busiest clubs.

Not only are Wolves prepared to make multiple signings to help Vitor Pereira bolster his options, but they also could sanction some sales.

Back-up goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has been made available for transfer by Wolves with Mario Lemina also linked with leaving Molineux.

However, despite Al Shabab making Lemina their top transfer target, the Saudi side could come up short in their efforts to bring him to the Middle East.

David Ornstein drops Mario Lemina transfer update

Even though Lemina has looked likely to leave, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, it now seems an agreement between Wolves and Al Shabab is someway off.

“If Mario Lemina moves to the Saudi Pro League then Wolves will look to bring in a new midfielder,” he told NBC Sports. “But that one has gone a little bit quiet at the moment.”

Suggestions Wolves could now retain Lemina will boost their manager’s chances of securing Premier League survival. The 31-year-old midfielder is one of the Old Gold’s most experienced players and boasts the physical attributes required to fit Pereira’s system.

Excitingly, in addition to potentially keeping hold of Lemina in midfield, Wolves could also pursue a new attacker to play in a more advanced and central attacking role.

Wolves know next position they want to reinforce

Defenders are high on Pereira’s transfer wish-list. Incoming centre-back Emmanuel Agbadou is set to become the side’s first January signing with RC Lens Wolves also want Kevin Danso.

However, once Pereira’s defensive backline is sorted, Ornstein is confident the Wolves owners will turn their attention to the Number 10 position.

“If they don’t bring in a midfielder, maybe they look toward a number 10; a more attacking player,” he added.

Of course, Wolves’ transfer plans depend on whether or not Lemina stays, but if he does, bringing in an attacking playmaker to operate behind the strikers will be next on Pereira’s to-do list.

With just three weeks left in the mid-season window, time isn’t on the Wolves manager’s side though.

Deciding the future of Lemina is clearly key to any future incomings — so fans will be keen for a line to be drawn under the saga — one way or another.
